It’s a question that we’re often asked: How do you choose the right grass seed for your pet? Well, there are a few things to consider before you make your decision.
Will grass seed be safe for my pets?
All of our Lawn UK grass seed mixes contain only natural, un-treated seed. This gives us the confidence to say that none of our seed mixtures are harmful to pets (or children for that matter). You should however use caution with the small seeds, particularly around ears, eyes and noses. Even though the seeds are not harmful, you don’t want the seeds to end up anywhere they shouldn’t, so it’s important to be careful whilst sowing.
How much wear and tear will your pets generate?
Whether you’re looking for suitable grass seed for an excitable German Shepard or something for your rabbits to graze, we have a wide range of grass seed for pets available. Our most popular mix is Sprogs & Dogs. This very hardwearing mixture is suitable for very high traffic and stands up well to the largest dogs. If you’re after something finer, try a mix like Easy Green. This mix will be suitable for smaller breeds of dog, and other small and less energetic animals like cats and rabbits.
What about grazing?
For pets such as guinea pigs and rabbits, it’s important to find a mixture that’s both durable and nutritious. Our Clover Lawn is a great grass seed for these pets with its blend of grasses and clovers.
The final choice
It is important though to make sure that your mixture is suitable for both your pets and your garden. Do you have shade? Is the soil dry? These are all things that also need to be taken into consideration before making a final choice. Generally, though, we always recommend our Sprogs & Dogs seed mixture as one of our best mixtures for pets.
