June is typically a quieter month on the Lawn Care calendar. But given the fairly cold start to the Spring that we’ve had, there are a few issues that will need some extra attention.
Mowing
Perhaps the most obvious of the lawn care tasks this month. Warm weather and adequate moisture means that your lawn will be growing stronger than ever, which may mean you need to increase mowing frequency. Fine mixtures, like our Premium Green will require closer and more frequent mowing, than some of our other mixtures, like those in our hardwearing range, where it is good to leave a little extra growth for durability. You can read more about mowing your lawn here.
Feeding
To keep your lawn at its greenest, now is a good time to apply a Spring/Summer fertiliser. Nitrogen will boost growth, and greenery, and keep your lawn in shape for the summer ahead. You can also use combined fertilisers to control weeds at the same time. Take a look at this article on fertiliser application for your best options here.
Overseeding
You can overseed your lawn throughout the summer, but without some extra irrigation, the results may not be as good as they would be in Spring or Autumn. Don’t be put off by that though, you can still overseed your lawn, as long as you keep it well watered. Using a sprinkler with a good wide coverage is the best way to do this, and it should be done late at night or early in the morning to avoid too much evaporation.
