As with most trades, grass seed sales are highly regulated by the EU. Strict regulations to ensure the highest quality seed are enforced by FERA, part of DEFRA. By following regulations enforced by the government, we are able to ensure that our customers get the best seed, and never any varieties with any problems.
The work that FERA does, involves the certifying of varieties of species sold in the UK. Whilst there are some uncertified seeds available in the UK, we only use varieties that have been tested in our lawn seed mixtures. These varieties, often originating from other parts of the continent such as Germany and Denmark are all tested for germination and purity.
Germination tests are carried out on the seed to ensure that a minimum percentage of the plants will germinate. Purity tests are carried out to ensure that the seed is not contaminated with weed seed, or any other foreign object. It is not uncommon for seeds to score 99-100% on the purity tests.
All these regulations ensure that we supply only the very best grass seed.
Our FERA license number is 7431.
